By Rim Size
There are 4 measurements you need to determine if a rim will fit your car:
- The wheel has to have the same bolt pattern. The number of lugs doesn't necessarily mean they will fit. Not all 5-hole wheels will fit all cars with 5 bolt patterns. Measure from the center of one stud to the center of either of the two opposite studs to determine the the distance. For an example, if there are 5 bolts and they measure 108mm apart, you want a 5x108 bolt pattern.
- Check the diameter of the rim to make sure it will fit your existing tire or you will have to replace the tires as well. To check the diameter, measure from the top to bottom of the rim.
- The offset of the rim is the depth from the mounting point to the inside of the wheel. If you mount rims with the improper offset, you can end up rubbing your tires up against the frame or fenders. To measure, lay a board or other straight edge across the back of the existing rim. Measure the distance from the mounting point to the straight edge. This will give you your current offset.
- Width is the final measurement and is determined by measuring the width of the wheel.
A sample configuration for many Ford vehicles is a 18x8 rim with a 5x108 bolt pattern and a +38mm offset.
